Brian Harland spent 43 field seasons undertaking geological mapping of the Polar archipelago, Svalbard, beginning in 1938 and ending in the 1990s. He was a demonstrator and lecturer in the Department of Earth Sciences, and was instrumental in the establishment of CASP (Cambridge Arctic Shelf Programme).
